Contact lenses: are they for you?
Index
Need better vision, but hate the idea of wearing glasses? Perhaps contact lenses are the ideal solution.
Contact lenses are designed to to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness as well as some other visual conditions, and are great for people who’s lifestyle makes wearing prescription glasses uncomfortable or awkward. Many people wear contact lenses for aesthetic reasons, as they don’t like the look of glasses, and others wear both contacts and glasses at different times.
If you have vision issues and you’re interested in wearing contacts, ask your optometrist or opthalmologist for advice. Once you are diagnosed, the optometrist will design, fit and dispense your prescribed contact lenses.
In comparison to prescription glasses, contact lenses are generally regarded as providing better peripheral vision. In addition, they are compact, easily contained and relatively disposable and replaceable. They are particularly good if you are into sport and other active pursuits, where spectacles can be a hindrance. If you work in steamy environments, contact lenses don’t collect condensation, nor are they affected by rain, sun glare or perspiration.
Contact lenses are generally manufactured with a life of up to four weeks but some are designed for one-off, single day use.
