The wedding meal – can you try before you buy?

Hosting a wedding reception is probably one of the more expensive things you will do in your lifetime so you’ll want to make sure you get it right. A part of getting it right means achieving good value for your money and leaving a lasting positive memory in the minds of your guests.

    Choose the Right Venue

Whether you invite 20 or 200 to your wedding, the quality of the food is a big deal and it should be at the top of your checklist when deciding on any venues.

There are many options when it comes to catering for your wedding. Choosing between a stand-up cocktail affair or a sit-down meal is just the start. The caterers should be able to give you a range of menu options to suit the style of the event and your budget.

When it comes to choosing the wedding menu, it’s all about the taste. Most caterers will offer you the opportunity to taste the menu as part of the quoting process. If your caterer doesn’t offer this automatically, ask for one regardless – before you commit to anything.

Test the Menu Ahead of Time

Tasting the menu before the wedding day will give you plenty of time to make changes if anything is a problem, such as guests with food intolerances, or dishes that just don’t come up to scratch. Make sure that the food will be fresh, seasonal and there are plenty of options for every picky eater.

If the menu does change for whatever reason, it’s okay to ask for another tasting. In fact, depending on the complexity of the menu, it’s not out of the ordinary to request several tastings before you sign off on the final dishes.

For this reason, try the food at least two weeks out from the wedding. This gives the chef plenty of time to get the dishes perfect.
