FAQs
I notice you’re a master electrician. Does that mean you’re expensive?
No, it means we’re good. Accredited master electricians are recognised by their peers as being both skilled and knowledgeable, so you can rest easy knowing that your job will be done right.
I just need some new power points installed. Is that too small a job for you?
No, we do large jobs and small jobs; it’s all part of the service. And do not even think about doing it yourself. It might look easy, but you could get electrocuted, start a fire, and make your insurance null and void.
I’ve just bought a house that’s 50 years old. Does it need re-wiring?
Not necessarily. We normally say that houses over 60 years old may need rewiring, but every case is different, and it’s best to err on the side of safety. Even if there’s no apparent danger, old wiring can play havoc with your computers and devices. Call us and we’ll put your mind at rest.
What type of smoke alarm do you recommend?
Photo-electric: detect visible smoke and slow-smouldering fires. They are suitable for most locations, including near the kitchen, as they are less prone to false alarms from cooking. Ionisation: detect particles of smoke from fast-flaming fires. All fire services in Australia recommend photo-electric smoke alarms when installing or replacing existing smoke alarms. For additional protection, consider installing interconnected smoke alarms connected to 240-volt mains power.

Should I replace my old fuse box with a new switchboard?
Yes, if you have an old fuse box, it needs to be upgraded because, like most things, when they get old, they become brittle, cable connections become loose, and there is no safety protection device to protect you, your kids, family and friends, animals, and appliances from electric shocks. When you get us to upgrade your fuse box, we upgrade it to meet the rules and regulations of AS3000. This means that your new switchboard will have the appropriate circuit breakers and safety switches.
Do you do air conditioning?
Yes, we are qualified air-conditioning installers. We specialise in split-system air conditioners (also called wall air conditioners) and can supply and professionally install all the top brands at very competitive prices.

Steven came out promptly for a free estimate, and handled our many questions easily. After accepting the quote they had the job scheduled within a day or two, and completed the job in just a couple hours (replaced some old halogen lighting with LED down lights). The work came in under estimate, and we could not be happier with the result. I will definitley be using Hit the Switch for all my electrician needs.

Hit the Switch recently replaced our bathroom exhaust. Steven was great to deal with and he organised everything easily and without fuss. Steve was on time and completed the job perfectly without any dramas and was lovely to chat to. I will definetly be using Hit the Switch again.

Hit the Switch - recently replaced our smoke alarms. Steve and Steven were both very pleasant and easy to deal with. Third time I have used this business. Terrific service and quality. They always go above and beyond to help out. Honest, trustworthy and reliable. I won't use any-one else. What was to be a simple thermostat replacement turned out to be a much larger task than anticipated. Even so, Steven approached the problem with professionalism and integrity. He kept at it until the job was done.The end result was masterful work - thermostat sitting flush and square on the wall working perfectly. Steven's attention to detail and cleanliness meant there's no visible signs of how much work was done to get it working. I even had a few extra requests that Steven was gracious enough to accomodate despite his busy schedule. At the end there were no hidden costs, just exactly what was quoted. A big thank you to Steven and his team - I can't rate them highly enough!

We used Hit the Switch in July 2017. From the first time we met Steve for a quote, he was punctual and took his time in explaining what was required after showing him what needed to be done. Also offerred alternative solutions to achieve a better outcome. Compared to other sparky's we obtained quotes from, he was patient and no job was too small or too big. The job was completed with professionalism by the two Steve's (yes they are both called Steve, makes it easy to remember) and they didn't rush it. They cleaned up any mess and any issues encountered were explained so we understood what the alternatives were and what was required to rectify it. Both Steve's are pleasant blokes, easy to get along with and did an A1 job. Extremely satsified with their work and will definitely be using them again for our future jobs. Thorough, courteous, trustworthy, thoughtful & considerate of those of us who don't understand electrical work.
Their level of care for us as customers is second to none. They prepare for & carry out the job as if they were working on their own home.
They take time to explain everything to you & are flexible enough to accommodate changes on the fly, where required.
